Starting in 2017, five states will begin testing a new Part D enhanced medication therapy management model. One of those states is Arizona!
CMS has challenged participating insurance organizations to create new and innovative approaches under the Part D model. The new model is designed to help prevent abuse and misuse, particularly with high-risk medications, which in turn may result in a reduction in the related emergency and hospital expenses. Organizations that achieve a 2 percent reduction in fee-for-service expenditures will qualify for performance incentives.
Part D plan participants will have the opportunity to switch to similar, lower-cost medications, and eliminate duplicative therapies.
CVS Health in Arizona, Humana in Arizona and UnitedHealthcare in Arizona and Wellcare Prescription Insurance in Arizona are among the organizations selected to participate in the new model.
