We previously told you that Cigna would be the only Marketplace provider left standing in Maricopa county. Now, we’re learning that Cigna won’t actually offer its own plans through the Affordable Care Act exchange. In fact, according to the Phoenix Business Journal, Cigna’s only role will be to offer its Cigna Medical Group network to Centene.
Centene plans to offer health maintenance organization coverage branded as Ambetter in Maricopa and Pima counties. Ambetter is Centene's nationally-recognized brand on the Health Insurance Marketplace. Consumers can start shopping for 2017 coverage during the Open Enrollment period beginning November 1, 2016, with coverage starting as soon as January 1, 2017.
According to Centene’s September 14 press release, 2017 Ambetter offerings in Arizona will provide incremental revenue of over $500 million and have a positive impact on earnings in 2017.
